Rollercoaster Ride - By Keira
It was the first time I went up the tower of terror. Everybody told me that they regretted going on the ride. I sat in the seat - then got a fright when the bar slammed over my head.

Snow! By Kohl Goodfellow
Snow 1
Glimmery like a bell.
Soft like a blanket.
Quiet as a snowman.
White as a shirt.
Floats like a boat.
Cold as icecream.
Snow 2
Glimmery like sparkling duet.
Soft like a spongy mat.
Quiet as cats creeping down the hall.
White as guinea pigs in a white cage.
Floats like a canoe paddling down the river.
Cold as freezing ice.

Simpson and his Donkey - The Donkey of Gallipoli!
What we think this book is about - in our own words....
A man named Simpson went to Gallipoli. He carried wounded back from the front until they ran out of stretchers. Then he used a donkey to help save the wounded soldiers. He was very brave and the Sikh soldiers called him Bahadur, bravest of the brave.
By EW
Jack Simpson trained as an Allied soldier and went to Gallipoli. He carried wounded soldiers from the battle front and also brought water to the thirsty soldiers. He and his donkey became famous for helping people.
By JT
Before the war, a young man named Jack Simpson gave Donkey rides to people on the beach for a penny. He was forced to go to war and at training camp he didn’t do very well. Instead of fighting and shooting, he decided to save the wounded and take them back to the base with stretchers. He was kind and gentle. Not long after that he found a donkey. They started to run out of stretchers so Jack used his Donkey. He also brought water to the thirsty soldiers. He was called Bahadur by the Sikh gunners, which means the bravest of them all. It was very risky to go and save the soldiers and he saved lots of lives. By KW |

Homework Week 8 activity!

The dolphin is one of the most playful and intelligent animals on our planet. Even though dolphins spend their lives in the water, they are not fish, but are mammals. Dolphins can't breathe water like fish, but need to come to the surface to breath air. There are many kinds of dolphins. Perhaps the most famous are the Bottlenose Dolphin and the Killer Whale (that's right the Orca, or Killer Whale, is a member of the dolphin family).
How do dolphins live?
Dolphins are very social animals. Many dolphins travel in groups called pods. Some dolphins, like Killer Whales, live in pods of 5-30 members for their entire lives. Each Pod behaves differently. Some pods migrate and travel around the world, while others have a specific territory. Sometimes pods can group together to make giant pods as large as 1000 or more dolphins. Baby dolphins are called calves. The males are called bulls and the females are called cows.
How big do they get?
The largest dolphin is the Killer Whale which grows up to 23 feet long and can weight over 4 tons. The smallest dolphin is the Heaviside's Dolphin which grows to just over 3 feet long and weighs around 90 pounds. Dolphins have long snouts that typically hold around 100 teeth. They also have a blowhole on the top of their head that they use for breathing.
What do dolphins eat?
For the most part, dolphins eat other smaller fish, but they are not limited to just fish. They eat squid, too, and some dolphins, like Killer Whales, will often eat small sea mammals like seals and penguins. Dolphins often hunt together, herding fish into packed groups or into inlets where they can be easily caught. Some dolphins will share their food with the young or let the young catch injured prey as practice. They don't chew their food, they swallow it whole. Dolphins get the water they need from the animals they eat, rather than drinking ocean water.
Fun Facts About Dolphins
- Dolphins are part of the same animal order, Cetacea, as whales.
- Many dolphins are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act. The Hector's dolphin is classified as endangered.
- They are intelligent enough to understand complex commands.
- Like all mammals, dolphins give birth to live young and nurse them with milk.
- River dolphins live in fresh water, rather than salt water.
