Our Inquiry Progress!

We have been working hard on our Inquiry in Room 6 and the children have learnt lots of exciting things, this was evident in our new wonderings.

In this slide show there are photos of our own machines that the children designed. They can be used in water, sea and land. The children described how their machine worked and what it was used for and labeled them. There were some very creative ideas.

You can also see our Great Green Vine of Learning which is our own Room 6 Inquiry model.

Casey's grandparents from Canada - Alicia and Roy!

Today we had a MARVELOUS example of the connected world in action. Casey's Grandma Alicia and Grandad Roy live in Canada and had been reading our class blog and leaving the odd comment or two. Today they turned up in person!!!

Grandad Roy shared some of his childhood experiences making simple toys and inventions such as steam boats and rubber band aeroplane.

In Canada he had went out especially to buy a Steamboat kit to show our class, this was a very kind and thoughtful thing to do. I think this was an amazing experience for me and my class and it just goes to prove how powerful I think blogging is for us.

We also learnt about Scotsquirrel motorbikes, Crystal radios, Steam tractors, Steam trains, Steam engines, Tin cans with string attached for correspondence, Old cars, Motorbikes with a big radiator on it, Radios with a battery the size of a car, Clockwork cars, getting the cane at school, discipline and the way it was in the classroom back then and lots more.

THANK YOU very much Roy and Alicia for coming, we treasured your words. Thank you Casey for sharing your Grandad and Grandma!!

Our guest speaker Nicky!

Nicky came to school to show us Santa, Rudolph and Snowman, she showed us them because we were learning about how things move.

We found out that they moved in sequence and they had to face each in order for it to work. We think they all have a memory chip and a radio signal so that they can remember and know when to sing.

You can see a photo of the signal chips.

If they are turned on by themselves then they will sing all the parts by themselves. When they sing the song by themselves it is different. The song they sing together is jingle bells.

We enjoyed learning about how they moved.

Thank you Nicky and Madison. We thought it was a wonderful impromptu learning time. You guys are AWESOME.

Fun with Flipper Ball!

Flying Amphibious Update!

As you can see we have worked hard on our Flying Amphibious.
Listed below are all the things it now has!

1. A paint job
2. A motor

3. A Propeller

4. A Gear Stick

5. A Steering Wheel

6 A Key
7 An exhaust

The children have all worked hard on planning and finding out what a machine needs in order for it to go, and they are working away on making all of these for our Flying Amphibious.

It has been a great learning process because they are trying to make their models as realistic as possible.

Room 6 you are AWESOME!

Meet Ben!

Hi my name is Ben and I am 7 years old. I like going to Fairfield school because my friends go here and everyone is nice. My hobbies are soccer, touch, making models and swimming.

I made an exhaust with Megan for our Flying Amphibious. We made it with two washing powder boxes, some curly ribbon, a cup cake holder, and a cotton winder.

I looked at an exhaust pipe on my Dads truck and found it had a box for the fumes so we made a box and attached the exhaust pipe to it. The ribbon is the fumes coming out and the cup cake is the extra holder in case the fume box gets too full. The cotton winder is the winder that makes all of the fumes come out.

We painted it red and black to go with the rest of it.

I enjoyed making it because I love making stuff because it is fun.
