Hi All,
Term 3 has started off with a hiss and a roar with the Museum Sleepover, the children had an awesome time with the butterflies and the Animal Attic night walk which seemed to be the favourite. They LOVED sleeping in discovery world and enjoyed the chatter before bed time (as you do)! Thank you very much to all those who attended as well, it was great getting to know you all better, and seeing the children sparkle around you all.
We are doing an Inquiry this term called 'We all fit together'. It is an inquiry based on the Olympics but we a specifically looking at team work, perseverance, reliability, self motivation, different cultures that are in the Olympics, history of the Olympics and asking the question "Is the spirit of Olympics still alive?"
Our Key Understandings are:
1. The making of new friendships and the sharing of different cultures are more important than the medals won.
2. Success comes through effort – you only get back what you put in.
3. Fairplay is universal and crucial for harmony in everyday life.
These are the understandings that the children and I will be looking at and I will be assessing the children on these during our Inquiry.
We are also involved in the Greatest Feat challenge and we are working together as a team to get from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island in 3 weeks. As we go we are unlocking information on past Olympians and also Olympic people who are competing this year.
We have a website http://www.olympic.org.nz/Article.aspx?ID=5741
where we are going into and looking at Olympic athletes blogs, the children even want to blog them and comment on how well they are doing. They have lots of questions to ask as you can imagine.
We have taken 866 356 steps altogether which is 333.2 kilometres. The children are loving it and rising to the challenge and responsibility.
We have also been involved in Maori language week where we have been learning some Waiata and Maori Language for the classroom. We have been doing Whanui Hui with Room 5 most mornings. The children are enjoying the Haka and they are learning a little bit more about our culture.
Our Cross Country is going to be on the 18th of August so all of our Greatest Feat training and fitness will be a great way to build our fitness for this. We are also going to be learning some basic first aid on the 19 of August. On the 23rd of September we are having the Fairfield Athletics as well.
We still have Debbie Garth our third year teacher and we will be getting a second year student soon. We also are VERY lucky to have Nikki Williams in our class volunteering some Teacher Aid hours as she is doing a course at Teachers College.
The children are a credit to you all and I am loving teaching them, our class routines are the same as the previous term. I enjoyed the interviews and it was great to set new goals for the children to continue on their positive learning progress. Please don't hesitate to come and see me if you are having any problems.
Thanks Jo C-B

Here is a story from Lydia!
One day our class went to the Otago Museum for a sleepover. We went on the 24th of July. It was a short trip.
When we got there I was so EXCITED!!!!! First I was scared of going into the butterfly house. It's weird how I don't like butterflies. When I heard we were going at night I wasn't scared, I also heard that they are all asleep.
When we went in we had to sit under a big fish, some Dad's and Mum's came with us. They took us up to a big room. This room was where we were going to put our stuff.
I loved looking at the butterflies in the pitch black night. We got out of the butterfly house and we needed to set up our comfy warm beds. As soon as we had set them up we had to put on our soft P.J's.
Before we went to bed we went on a spooky quiet night walk. We went to the animal attic. Jamie which is the man who took us told us a story as we heard animals sqwaking and roaring.
I LOVED the night walk most, it was the COOLEST night ever!!
ROOM 6 leave a comment and tell us your most favourite part.

Our Steps!!
We have done 398 723 steps so far as a class altogether, we have also walked 153.4 kilometers. YAY!!
We are loving our Greatest Feat project and I was just amazed when children came to school today, they unpacked their bags and then they were out the door as quick as a flash, going 9 times around the fitness track.
I started the morning off when the bell rang with quite a few red faced children. I was so proud of them all for being self motivated. We are currently beating Room 5.....not by much though.
We are not too far away from unlocking one of the treasure flags which has information in it about a Olympian.
I think we are going to have another AWESOME term.

Hamish Carter!
WHY IS HAMISH CARTER INTO MY GREATEST FEAT
“Every New Zealand Olympian took their first step somewhere. For me, it was in my local school. And I've never looked back. As we count the days to the Beijing Olympic Games, I hope you enjoy counting your steps on your own pedometer and achieving your own Greatest Feat. Good luck and go for it!”

My Holiday Adventure!! - Mrs C-B!
We went on a holiday adventure in the first week, our Daddy Iain decided to take us on a secret adventure. We had so much fun and it was just what we all needed. We went to Timaru, Christchurch and we then spent 5 nights in Hanmer Springs - Bliss!!
We had so much fun in the snow and relaxing by the fire. We stayed with Shannon, McKenzie and Susan and we all had a ball. Lily went horse riding with Shannon and Susan as part of her birthday present, it was an hour trek and she loved it!!
I enjoyed lots of walks in the bush and Susan and I went on a very long 2 and a half hour one that had snow so thick that it went up to the middle of my calf muscle. I LOVED IT!! I also went for walks with Iain which was nice.
Gabe enjoyed hanging out and playing, he loved the snow when we went high on top of a mountain and made a snow shark and slid down the hill on lino. We went on a pedal taxi in Hanmer as well, Gabe thought it was cool.
We went to the hot pools and I stayed in the 41.5 degrees pool pretty much the whole time, it was lovely to sit and be warm and look at the snow on the mountains.
I hope you all have enjoyed your holidays and are ready for a new term. You all worked so hard last term and I am enjoying you all as a class. Leave a comment and tell me what you are all up to.
