Maxwell's camp!

Hello my name is Max and I am a student in room 8 at Fairfield school. I had a lot of fun at camp Waih0la. My favourite activities were rifle shooting and the big flying fox! Mr. Larson the school's principal took me for rifle shooting. Mr. Hartmann and Mrs. Barnes took me for the flying fox. It was great fun once you started it and you had to be careful of your landing because there is a bank you have to try and land on, if you don't you would hurt yourself. The camp favourite activity was pot lid. This is a game where one person starts with a pot lid then choose someone to hold hands with. We are all very grateful for the teacher's and I am sad that I'm leaving next year. :'(

Mrs C-B hair raising idea for the fair!!!

Colour Jo’s Hair! (Mrs C-B)

Jo Cook-Bonney has a hair-raising idea for the school fair!

You can choose a colour foil that will go in Jo’s hair on the day of the fair. The more votes a colour gets...the greater the percentage of that colour!

Votes cost two dollar each, with the money being split between Fairfield school and the New Zealand Cancer Society.

Yes this is our Room 8 teacher, she would love it if you left comments or even had an online hair colour vote just for support.

There is a poll on the sidebar for people to have a vote:-)

Ideas from us and others to help people in Samoa:-)

I think we could Samoa be doing a fundraiser and change the money into their money. We could also send over some clothes, food and things to build a house with.
Georgia

We could have a walk or something and get donations and sponsors. We can give all the money to help from the damage in Samoa.
Jessica

We are going to have a mufti-day at our school to raiser money so that was what our school though would be the best way that we could help and donate money.
Melville Intermediate, Hamilton, Waikato.

We could put the money from the sausages to help Samoa.
Joshua

Hi
We could do a fun run or a mufti day to raise money for Samoa.
JORDAN

I think we could have a fundraiser concert we could bring some of the salvation army clothes over and get some volenteers over or make all the schools who have uniforms have a mufti day that costs two dollars.
Madi

We could donate quarter or half the money from the school fair to the Samoan relief funds.
Connor

I think we could donate food and clothes to Samoa or have a special day when we do lots of activities at school 4 money then later on we can send the money that we raised and we could send over the cookie and smart lunch money to Samoa.
KATE :)

We Could Have a water day where everyone has to wear there togs and there's a sausage sizzle and dancing and you have to donate a gold coin donation and all the money goes to Samoa our class could run some stations face-painting, dunk the teacher and any more we make up.
TYLER:)

We could help them by selling chocolate to raise money or our school could donate 5 dollers to help them build there houses back up to what they were. Tom

I think that at the school fair we could have a fundraising stall for the tsunami victims in samoa.
Samk

I thought we could give Samoa the things left over from the fair. Chloe

I think we can have a muffty day that is two dollars or more. Or we can go around and ask for a donations. We could also send some of our old clothes, blankets & toys!
JESS=]

We could do a run or a bike ride 2$ per entry and the top 3 gets a prise and we could do groups and all the money would go to Samoa
JAKE

The Morning Story!

I yawn as I wake in my pj's (that were made in India). I look around and grab my watch (that is made in China). I check out the time (6:37). Yes! I was allowed to read my book (Point Blanc) (that was made in the UK). At 7:24 Mum yells at me to get dressed, so I whip out my deoderant (that was made in the Philippines) and my school uniform. Then I go into the kitchen and pour soy milk (that was made in Aussie) over my cereal (that was also made in Aussie). Then I slouch over to the breakfast bar and eat my cereal while playing with my Bionicles (that were made in Denmark, Hungary and the Czech Republic). Mum shout's out that I need to use Dettol before I eat (that was made in Malaysia), after I'd eaten my cereal, she'll never know. I look at my watch, 8:01 better get moving, so I sprint up to the bathroom and brush my teeth with the lemon fresh toothpaste (that's made in NZ) and wash my hands. Finally I check the clock (that's made in NZ) 8:21, time to go to school!
By Sam

Globalisation at it's best!!

When I get up I put on my made in Australia Lynx. Then I put my made in China dressing gown on. Now it's time for breakfast. I get out my made in China bowl and boil the made in China jug. I get a made in Thailand cup out and put some made in New Zealand milo in it.

I get out my made in China lunch box and put it in my made in China school bag, I get the made in China toaster out and put so
me made in New Zealand bread in it. I get the made in New Zealand margarine out of the made in Korea fridge.
Mum makes Dallas unload the made in Korea dishwasher. I defrost some bread for Dallas in the made in Korea microwave. I go upstairs and put my made in New Zealand school uniform on. I fill up my made in China drink bottle and
then I'm ready for school.
By Josh

7:30 am the bowls from China rattled in the cupboards. I looked at the postcards from Italy, France, Paris and the Cotswolds in England. I get dressed in my uniform that was made in New Zealand, then brush my hair with the hairbrush that was made in China. I put on my white sneakers that were made in Indonesia and then I sit on my couch that was manufactured in Australia. Suddenly Mum says to make my bed so I race to my room to make my silver bed that was made in New Zealand.

Flags!

Why do South Korea and North Korea have different flags?

Which flag is for South Korea?

The difference between South and North Korea!

Our answers to this question!!

There is a huge difference between North and South Korea's economy. North Korea is a very poor country.  Many people in North Korea starve to death.  Also the government is controlling the economy.

South Korea is almost the opposite and is a pretty wealthy country.  It is a free economy just like NZ.
South Korea is a democratic country that means the public get to vote.  It has evolved into a heavily industrialised country.
The standard of living is great by world standards and the people are well fed and there is stability.

North Korea
North Korea is a communist country, that means that the public do not get a vote of who will be prime minister and who will be in parliament.  It is ruled by Kim Jong IL who took over from his father since he died.
The country has as isolation policy.  The country is run by a socialist dictator.  A personality cult is being generated by the state media around President Kim.  North Korea is currently building nuclear weapons capabilities which are causing anxiety on the Peninsula.
The roads are almost unusable and there has been some small uprising in some areas.

We would like to ask the children of Korea these questions.

What is your favourite food?
What hobbies do you have?
Could you tell me about your school?
What is it like living in South Korea?
What is your name?
Do you have brothers or sisters?
How many hours do you go to school?
Do you play a instrument?  If so what instrument do you play?
What games do you play in school in South Korea?
What do you do in school in Korea?
What lunches do you have in Korea?
Do you have a pet?
What is your favourite game?
Do you have any teddy bears or dolls?
What sort of sports do you play in South Korea?
What time does school start and finish?
What is your main food?
Do you have any flash houses?
What is it like living in your country?
What is the weather like where you live?
What is the main religion in South Korea?
Are people in South Korea poor?
Do you ever get scared of North Korea?
How warm does the weather get?
What are three of your countries laws?
What is something you have in common with us?
Do you have any electronic things like play stations, computers, t.v's?
Have you ever been to the North border?
Does your family recycle?
Where in South Korea do you live?
Does your school recycle?

I wonder how we could find out these answers?  Leave me a comment and tell me!

Globalisation - What we think it means?

What is Globalisation?

We asked our parents this question and these are the answers they gave us!

*All becoming one world or country.
*The world coming together and caring for each other.
*Something that effects the whole world.

*Making the world one, not hundreds of little countries so we're all members.
*When something goes worldwide.
*When a company say New World, starts in Dunedin, then goes Nation wide and is then sold all around the world.

*Being able to buy the same things in lots of different countries.
*Connection of the world and different cultures by trade, internet, phones and travel.
*A process of interaction and integration among the people.
*The world working together through trade agreements and selling natural resources.  We then can build economies to provide a better place for us to live.

*How the world is becoming a smaller place, like technology and air travel make it easier for people on one side of the world to communicate with, or travel to people on the other side of the world.

*When every country works together eg saving environment, swapping produces.
*Treating the world as one entity, ignoring the usual international boundaries.
Worldwide , Nations agree to do something.
*The idea to make the world work together to prevent future wars.

*When companies sell the same brand of product all around the world.  The world growing together.  Someone is Asia might have the same microwave as I do in NZ.
*Large amount of pollution world wide.  Constant use of plastic bags and plastic containers which take 100 years to decompose will eventually ruin our planet.

*The bringing together of all the countries in the world for travel, trade and communication.
*We export food likes of plums.  We export plums to America when it is winter there and summer here, they do that for us.  As well as other countries do similar things.
*When you expand to operate internationally.

Leave a comment and tell me which answer you think fits Globalisation the best.
