Creating our Water Carriers!!
As part of our 'Who are our neighbours inquiry' we designed our own water carriers. We had to do a design brief ourselves and invent a carrier that was made our of natural resources. It had to be able to carry water a certain distance. We collected the resources from home, and we can't wait to have our competition and see which one works the best!!
You can see us working hard on our creations in the photos, we worked extremely well in our teams.
Stay tuned to see photos on our competition of our water carriers. Leave us a comment and tell us what you think.

Meet Shannon!
This is Shannon Inch and she is a Yr3 girl in Room 6. We were very proud of Shannon because she raised $200.00 in sponsorship money for the cross country.
Shannon won the school prize for the greatest amount of money raised. I think that was wonderful of Shannon and her family to have made such a tremendous effort.
Here she is with her prize!
Place a comment and give her some positive praise for her efforts!

Our Room 6 STARS in the Cross Country!
These are our Yr 2 star runners in Room 6. Mikayla Gray in the first photo got first in our cross country and Rebecca McKay and Ava McFadgen got second and third!!
We were so proud of our Yr 2 girls!!These are our Yr 3 triplets! Abbey Constable came in first, Tayler Constable came second, and Cailtin Constable came third!!
What a trifecta for Room 6!! We were jumping up and down at the finish line.
We were very impressed with our triplets.
This is Cameron Gardiner one of our Yr 3 boys in Room 6. He came in third in his race, we were once again very proud!
The Cross Country was a wonderful sunny day at Wingatui in Mosgiel. It was lovely to see the whole school participating and cheering people on! We were lucky enough to have the Friends of the School selling some sausages, scones, and coffee.
It was heart warming to see 360 children getting on so well and putting in a great effort!
Room 6 did very well, we had been training around the block for the last month. Mr Weddel our student teacher had been running it with us. Mrs C-B timed us with her watch and we tried to beat our time daily!

Meet Madison!

This is Madison and she is a member of the Room 6 Purple People Eaters! You can see some photos of her, in one of them she is all dressed up for our space costume day as we had been doing an Inquiry on space, and the other is her hanging out with her friends at our recent cross country - she is the one in bright pink!
Madison had to write a story for homework describing what it would be like to swap her life with a child in Samoa. This is her story.
Hi my name is Selafina and I live in Samoa. It is very hot but I get used to it now. I love to eat sea food and coconuts but the best parts of my life is White Sunday.
I help my Grandmother make lava lava for our dance group. I like picking flowers to put behind my ear and also to make lei's. Every day and night we go to church to sing and pray. Singing is fun and I also love to watch Samoan idol on T.V every week.
In our village there is a shell that someone blows early in the morning. If I don't get up at that time I will miss going to sing and pray.

Umu at Fairfield!
On Friday the 17th of August we enjoyed a delicious Umu as the culmination of our Inquiry unit 'Who are our neighbours'.
The day started off with a staff breakfast and the Yr 8 children arriving very early for school to help with the putting down of the Umu.
The day was a great success with children, parents and staff enjoying a delicious lunch and then entertained with cultural performances in the afternoon. It was truly a memorable experience for all. A special thanks to Mr Mac and Miss Tofia who went above and beyond the call of duty to make the day a success!
Stay tuned for reports posted by our Room 6 Purple People Eaters!

Caitlin, Abbey and Tayler
In Room 6 for home work this week we had to invent something that would protect us from the sun in Samoa. We were only allowed to use plastic bags, newspaper and a belt.
This is what our triplets in Room 6 did, and we think they were magnificent!
Add a comment and tell us what you think.

Reiko, Douglas and Kenji!!
We were very lucky in Room 6 to have Reiko, Douglas and Kenji McMurray sharing some of their Japanese culture with us last week. Douglas is from our class and shared some of the elements of his own culture with us. His mother and brother were kind enough to come in and share as well.
We had a fantastic display of Kendo put on by Douglas and Kenji. Room 7 came and watched as well, because Kenji is in Room 7.
We felt very proud of Douglas and Kenji! Douglas was awarded with the Room 6 pupil of the week prize.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us Reiko, Kenji and Douglas. You are AWESOME!!

Simply Amazing
Have a look at these amazing paintings, they are almost as amazing as I think you are Room 6! How do you think they were done? Leave a comment and tell me what you think. If you run the mouse over the pictures they will get larger so that you can see them better.

Our Otago Settlers Museum Trip
On Friday the 3rd of August as part of our Inquiry, Room 6 went to the Otago Settlers Museum. We learned a lot about our culture and ancestors.
Instead of writing reports on them in our topic books, this time Room 6 will be writing mini reports in the comment section of the museum post.
Be sure to have a look!
Click on comments Room 6 and write a mini report on what the photos are about.
