Meet Mrs C-B in her holidays!!

I spent the first 3 days of my holidays at a conference in Invercargill with my darling husband Iain. We went to an Inspire, Lead, Teach conference and I learnt lots things about ICT, emotional intelligence, brain based learning and some new strategies from the United Kingdom. All of these will help me become a better teacher!

As you can see in the comic Lily my 7 year old daughter, decided to make a play up about a dragon and a kangaroo! It never ceases to surprise me when I get to play the Dragon, The Wicked Witch, The Ogre (a common thing happening here!), Iain always gets to be the Prince charming, Handsome Prince, basically the hero of the story!!

Anyway Lily got me to pose in the photos exactly how she wanted me and she took the photos in photo booth. She then placed them in Comic Life and made a script. We hope you enjoy reading it, double click on the Comic and it will come up bigger.

Room 6 I hope you are having a FABULOUS holiday and enjoying every moment. You all had a super term and I was so very proud of you all.

Leave a comment and tell me what your up to in the holidays.

Meet Christian!

This is Christian Win, he is a Yr 3 boy in Room 6. Here he is participating in the cricket session we had with Nathan King from Otago Cricket. He learnt some new cricket skills and games. Thank you for coming Nathan and to Mrs Kilsby for organising them to come!!

Christian also did a wonderful Samoan speech and delivered it perfectly to the classroom. We could tell that he had practised it and had even typed it up on the computer. Here is his speech!

Hi Class!

Samoa is the best country in the world to go on holiday. It is always hot there and they have a lot of nice beaches where you can swim in the warm water. At some places you can even swim in the sea with turtles.

While at the beach you can go fishing in the canoes or bigger boats, snorkeling or surfing. While there you can stay at the beach house, play games, climb trees and relax.

Thank you for listening to my speech.

Place a comment and tell Christian what you thought of his speech. Room 6 you might be able to write what you thought of his information, voice and how he delivered his speech.

Artistic Wonder!!

Add a comment and tell us what you think of this! I think the Artist is very clever!!

Meet Megan!

This is Megan Adam and she is in our Room as a Year 3. Megan comes from Scotland and has been in New Zealand for about a year now. In the above photo she has face paint on as part of our space dress up day.

As a class we had to do a speech where you are imagining you are a tourist agent and you had to give a talk about the great points of Samoa, here is Megan's speech!!

SAMOA

If you want a holiday where you can relax and chill out, try Samoa.

There are beautiful beaches, clear blue skies and sunny weather - you can even sleep in a beach hut by the sea and hear the waves at night before you go to sleep.

During the day you can try surfing, kayaking, go exploring or just enjoy the sun - but remember your sun screen and sun hat!

There is lots of lovely fresh food - fruit, vegetables and of course sea food to try too.

The people are friendly and are famous for their traditional dancing and singing, which you should not miss while you are in Samoa.

It's only a three hour flight from New Zealand and I'm sure after you've been once you'll come back and visit us again.

White Sunday Designs!

Room 6 have been learning so much about Samoa. They were quite intrigued with the ceremony of White Sunday and enjoyed reading the book White Sunday in Samoa.

The children thought it sounded like a great children's day and were fascinated with the white clothing that the Samoan children wore for this ceremony.

I decided to set them a task of designing their own White Sunday clothing. I gave each group a certain amount of white paper, and just let them go for it. You can see in the pictures how creative they are being. We are still working on the final product.

Stay tuned for more photos when we have finished.

Leave a comment and tell us what you think! Room 6 leave a comment and tell us more information on White Sunday.

Meet Jordan! A Fathers Day Tribute!

What makes my Dad special is he is very kind and helpful person.

He always helps me if I have a problem at school that I need to talk about which makes me feel happy inside. He is great at fixing things like my bike, some broken toys, and he even fixed our tap yesterday which was the day of Fathers Day.

At night he always comes into my bedroom and sings me a song, something called a walking doll I think. He reads with me, and is especially reading to me 'The James and the Giant Peach', which is my Lexile book and is taking forever!!

I got him an apron for the BBQ, a tool, and some Pav for Fathers Day. I made him about four bits of toast and a hot drink in bed with my brother Mason! He thought it was yummy, although we buttered it a bit long and it got cold! We went out for tea for Fathers Day with my Mums Dad and friends as well.

I love my Dad a million times around the universe!

Place a comment and tell us about the thing you did for Fathers Day!

Our Results!

The first photo is our winning teams water carrier and the second is the most creative teams water carrier. Aren't they wonderful!!

Testing our Water Carriers!!

We had so much fun testing our water-carriers. We had a competition at school to see which groups water carrier held the most water. We had to do it three times, it was so much fun. We laughed and laughed.

Some of us realised that our design wasn't really that good when it came to carrying water and some of us modified them a bit at lunch time. We tested the ones that were made at school and then we tested one groups one that Caitlin Constable decided to have a go with at home.

The group that won were Madison K, Tayler C, Olivia L, Abbery C,and Olivia R. They came up with an excellent design that was like a basket. They plaited the handle and lined the basket with material. We had a most creative group as well.

We really loved doing this technology challenge and Mrs C-B thought our ideas were simply magnificent. She tried very hard not to give us any ideas herself.

Leave a comment Room 6 and explain to people how you made your water carrier.
