Our Exciting Kidzone Visit!!

Room 6 had a special surprise yesterday we had the people from Kidzone television visit us.

Kayne, Janis and Barbs came because we had to learn some extra songs for them quickly when they needed it for filming Kidzone, so they came to return the favor.

It was so much fun, the children had a blast. We did some dancing, acting, drama, improvisation and games. Kayne who is the host of Kidzone teaches drama in Auckland to school children so he was great to have.

Thank you very much for coming Kayne, Janis and Barbs we loved having you.

Room 6 post a comment on what you loved about their visit.

Room 6 Super Heroes!

Room 6 has made $266.00 dollars selling bead bracelets for child cancer. In the morning Petra's Dad blogged us, he couldn't believe how much money we had made. It was great to get a comment from him, it made us feel special. We hope Petra has seen our blog. We are glad that she is back at school.

We sell the bead bracelets every morning. We have sold 3 boxes all ready. Our inquiry topic is Super Heroes we are tryig to be them. We think super heroes don't have to wear tights.

We hope to have a Super Hero day and raise more money for child cancer and get a lady in from the cancer organisation to speak to us. We will give her the money then.

Hedgy on Holiday!

Hedgy is our class room buddy and mascot. He sits at peoples desks as they are working and class mates share him around when they discover people working or being kind. Room 6 are very good at spotting kindness and good work!

Hedgy loves to be cuddled and he likes to be handled correctly by children. Room 6 love having Hedgy and feel very special when it is their turn.

We asked Chanelle and her Mum to take Hedgy on holiday with them and they thought it was a great idea.

As you can see in the photos Hedgy had a ball and so did Chanelle and her family and extended family.

Hedgy says thank you for taking me and Room 6 would like to thank Chanelle and her family.

Room 6 leave a comment and tell us what you like about having Hedgy in the classroom.

Our Super Hero Characters!

Here are some of our Super Hero characters that have been drawn in Kid Pix. We are planning comics in our story writing books and then publishing them in Comic Life.

Some of our Super Heroes save people from being poor, from drowning, from mean words, from fires, from not having any food, from too much litter etc. We tried to make our heroes save something that needs to be addressed in our world.

Stay tuned for our comics.

Leave us a comment and tell us what you think. Be sure to check out our new writing blog.

About Petra's Beads!!

Room 6 are being Super Heroes by helping people with cancer. We have a poster of Petra in our classroom and she has 376 beads around her neck, they represent all of the treatment she has had.

We decided to be heroes by raising money for the child cancer foundation. Hannah's Mum works for the child cancer foundation bought along a poster, and bead bracelets to sell. Hannah is in charge of collecting the money along with the rest of Room 6. We are going to try and sell as many as we can!!

Hannah has written out some information for us, here it is below.

When a child with cancer goes through a treatment or procedure they receive one special bead. Petra has 376.

Their hair often falls out from the treatment.
Petra is a happy five year old girl with a twin sister Libby, two brothers Rory, Ned and Step brother Joshua, and loving parents Toni and Chris.

In March 2007 Petra was diagnosed with c
ancer.

This to me captures why we should let our students blog, and it was created by Rachel Boyd who works at Nelson Central School.

We have their blog address in our links on this page and we regularly have a look to see what her class is doing.

Art Gallery Trip!

Today we had a very successful trip to the Dunedin Art Gallery. We have been studying about ourselves, so John (the Art Gallery guy) took us around lots of different portraits and exhibitions first and asked us lots of interesting questions that related to the exhibit.

He asked us;

1. What we liked?
2. What sort of pets we had?
3. Who was in our family?
4. What we were scared of?
5. What our favourite food was?

and lots more, but they all related to the key idea that we are all different.

We had to do a fear factor thing when we got up to the Art studio rooms. It was great and people had to try and pull the cloth out form under the cups (you can see this in our slide show). It was all about facing our fear. One of our Dad's tried it and so did Mrs C-B.

We then did some wonderful pictures that related to us as a person. We had to think about symbols. We overlapped them in our picture which created a cool effect.

We used vivid and then dye, crayon and coloured pencil to try and get our pictures to stand out and not look flat. We still haven't finished them and we will be completing these in class.

THANK YOU to the parent helpers on the trip and a special mention to Tyler's Dad Graham who took on the fear factor challenge in his suit (the cups had water in them)!!

Room 6 leave a comment and tell us what you thought of the day! I was very proud of you all on the trip.

Building Of Our Classrooms Progress!

Our Adventure to the Pickled Possum Television Studio

On Monday and Thursday we went to Kid Zone Pickled Possums Studio, so we could sing on TV!! We sang Traffic Lights, Muscle Power, Fun Fish, Washing Machine and finally the Snakey Twist.

In each song we had to be rockets first, we crouched down and jumped up shouting hurray. We then sang the song, it was so much fun! The whole class was hotter than a stove by the time we finished because of the lighting in the studio.

We had to do the song 3 times and each time we were in a different position in the studio as they were filming different aspects. The first time it was our singing; the next was Kayne Peters (that’s the host) doing a welcome and the third it was our actions and dancing.

We had to smile a lot!!
We got free morning tea and it was YUMMY!!
By Caleb

When I was traveling to the studio I was nervous but once I got there I found it
EXCITING,
Proud afterwards,

Relieved,

HAPPY because I love dancing and singing,

Hot.

I felt like a film star!

Thank you to all of those parents who helped out. It was an AWESOME experience for us all!!
