Casey's grandparents from Canada - Alicia and Roy!

Today we had a MARVELOUS example of the connected world in action. Casey's Grandma Alicia and Grandad Roy live in Canada and had been reading our class blog and leaving the odd comment or two. Today they turned up in person!!!

Grandad Roy shared some of his childhood experiences making simple toys and inventions such as steam boats and rubber band aeroplane.

In Canada he had went out especially to buy a Steamboat kit to show our class, this was a very kind and thoughtful thing to do. I think this was an amazing experience for me and my class and it just goes to prove how powerful I think blogging is for us.

We also learnt about Scotsquirrel motorbikes, Crystal radios, Steam tractors, Steam trains, Steam engines, Tin cans with string attached for correspondence, Old cars, Motorbikes with a big radiator on it, Radios with a battery the size of a car, Clockwork cars, getting the cane at school, discipline and the way it was in the classroom back then and lots more.

THANK YOU very much Roy and Alicia for coming, we treasured your words. Thank you Casey for sharing your Grandad and Grandma!!

Room 6 leave a comment and tell us what you remembered!

It was really cool when my Gran and Grandad came to my class and when they showed us the pop pop boat. But on Sunday when we first made it and tested the pop pop boat, it blew up! We even tried to solder it back together, but it just blew up again.

Thank you Gran and Grandad, you are wonderful.

Thank you for coming in and telling
us about your life in Canada. There were lots of funny things you told
us. Making a boat out of wood and metal would probably be pretty hard. I liked learning about the crystal radio. It sounded pretty cool.
Learning about the machiens was
prety cool to. I enjoyed you coming to tell us about your life in Canada. I wish you could come in
and say hi to us again. Thank you
for every thing you told us. From room six.

Casey's grandparents came to talk to us .We learnt alot I liked the putput boat. He showed us an old style of radio, I learnt that if you scratch a crystal you can pick up Radio Signals. He told us about how when he went to school he got in trouble and one time he got whipped on both hands 6 times in front of the whole school. Casey's Grandma must have been really good cause she only ever got whipped once.

Room 6's Purple People
Alicia and I really enjoyed meeting you and thank you all for the warm welcome. We both found your class room very interesting and a great environment to learn. I was seven when I made my first putt-putt motor the same as most of you. Good to see that one of you has made a putt-putt motor and another has brought in a toy boat with putt-putt motor. With such rapid changes in technologies, I wonder what stories you will be telling you grand children. Thank you all for the great Waa Whoo
