My Nana said that the following things have changed in the environment:
* Finding that the rivers are a lot lower than they were back then.
* Snow falls are not as big.
* Small country towns are a lot less populated.
* Banks and post offices have disappeared from small country towns.
* There used to be gravel roads and now they are bitumen.

The following things helped her environment in her day:
* Didn't have as much wastage as today (flour bags used to be used to carry the loaves of bread home.
* No plastic (eg glad wrap etc). Paper was used to wrap things and keep them fresh.
* Not as many motor cars therefore not as much pollution. Her mother and father didn't have a motor car until 1939.
* Didn't have supermarkets so you were always supporting your local supplier/shops/dairies etc.
* Milk was laddled into you billy to carry home from the dairy.

My Grandma & Grandad said that there was no recycling but people didn't waste things because they reused it. Like when the sheets got a hole in them they cut them up and made them into pillowcases.
They said there were not as many cars so there were not as many fumes in the air. If they saw any litter on the ground or in the lake they picked it up and put it in the bin.
Mum & dad said that the world was quieter in their day. There were no cellphones or computers, so we used less electricity. People only had 1 car in their family and sometimes none. They traveled by bus a lot.

Nana Netty says

Nana Dafffy

was not as much cars she took trams and walked everywhere and went camping a lot

Mum

Dad
more pollution and a lot more cars
did not litter walked and biked to school

Grandad said they didn't know to care for the environment when he was young. No one talked about the ozone layer, they had never heard of recycling and they used to throw out all their rubbish. They used to get rid of waste in big huge burn ups every week, even at the dump. He said supermarkets were different, you couldn't buy meat there, and his dad was a butcher and used to sell meat off a horse drawn cart. There were no disposable nappy packs, and some people used to bury bad nappies in the garden!!
